Generously kind and empathetic, Christopher Wisdom Chimela (born March 1, 1992) is a talented Nigerian singer and songwriter with the stage name Mela. The self-taught rising star hails from Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria, and is currently based in Lagos, Nigeria. Mela has been passionate about music since 2012. He would often find himself drawn tremendously to heartfelt songs from established artists.
Mela is not only surrounded by creative influences like 2face and Akon but also inspired by them. He infuses subtle Afrobeat and yet, soul-searching R&B vocals to birth a contemporary unique melody and rhythm, which consciously create a spectacular brand of music that is not only inspiring but empathetic.
As opposed to being a mostly self-taught artist, not bagging formal musical skills through professional learning wasn’t possible, Mela couldn’t further with his secondary school certificate due to financial constraints. He found himself in a pool of hardship he never wanted.
Ever since then, he has been drawn to these harsh realities that are constantly peeking from his environment. The need to take the bull by the horns arises, and he decided to publicize his musical art. Music becomes his medium of choice with which daily harsh struggles demonstrated in adulthood are highlighted.
With the hope of resonating with those going through these hardships, he found his musical space with CASI RECORDS and recorded his first single “Iwe”.

“came when I realized that as an adult, the more you strive to make a living, the more problems and responsibilities are piling up from different angles… so I felt the need to cry out.”
His soon- to-be-released single is a lyrical blend of intriguing Afro-R&B laced with meaningful content and messages.

The record label came into existence following the death of two excellent sources of strength that built the bridge for Egbuchiem Anthony to cross. CASI is a coalition of these historical figures- the aunt and niece.
