General Overseer, 3 Other Pastors Sentenced To Prison For Fraud In Enugu

According to a report by a correspondent, a magistrate court in Enugu has convicted and sentenced the General Overseer of Christian Charismatic Movement, Enugu, Sabinus Onuigbo, to seven years imprisonment for forgery.

Magistrate J.O Umuzulike read the judgment on Thursday following the prosecution of Onuigbo alongside three other pastors, Tony Chukwu, Chukwuma Orji Victor and Nick Nwoye.

The three others were sentenced to three years with an option of N20,000 fine.

The judge said the evidence before the court showed that the prosecution proved the allegation of forgery beyond reasonable doubts.

The signature of a pastor, Sunny Ndolo, who resigned from the church since 2011, was forged by Onuigbo and his accomplices in the minutes of the church’s meeting held on July 14, 2014, as brought to the court by the complainant, Innocent Ngwu.

The judge said:

The sole issue for determination was the forgery of Rev. Sunny Ndolo’s signature. The defence did not debunk or contradict it all through their defence.

“As Lord Denning would say, you cannot put something on nothing and expect it to stand. The prosecution proved their case beyond a reasonable doubt.

“But facts before the court found four of the accused guilty while the fifth accused was not a party to the allegations.”

Marketers and operators have increased petrol pump prices to N210-N500 per litre

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, in the February 25 presidential election has lashed out at President Bola Tinubu.

This followed Tinubu’s decision to end fuel subsidy.

Reacting to the resurfacing of queues, Sowore said that Tinubu’s “thoughtless fuel subsidy removal announcement triggered fuel scarcity and price gouging all over the country.”

Recall that marketers and operators have increased petrol pump prices to N210-N500 per litre, following the confirmation of fuel subsidies removal by Tinubu’s administration.

In a post via his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday, Sowore claimed that the nation’s elites don’t care about Nigerians.

He wrote, “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT thoughtless fuel subsidy removal announcement has already triggered fuel scarcity and price gouging all over Nigeria. This is why Nigerians must understand that nothing good will come out the Nigerian Elite-in and out- of power. They’re always after you. They don’t care about you! #Revolutionnow.”

Subsidy Removal Won’t Take Immediate Effect – Tinubu Clarifies

Published

on

The statement explained the development is neither a new development nor an action of his new administration.

Following rise in the price of petrol and resurfacing of queues, the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Media Centre has clarified that fuel subsidy removal announced by President Bola Tinubu on Monday will not take effect immediately.

According to TheNation, The Centre, in a statement, urged the public to relax panic-buying that has ensued as a result of Tinubu’s speech.

The statement explained the development is neither a new development nor an action of his new administration.

The Tweet reads: “The public is advised to note that President Bola Tinubu’s declaration that “subsidy is gone” is neither a new development nor an action of his new administration.

“He was merely communicating the status quo, considering that the previous administration’s budget for fuel subsidy was planned and approved to last for only the first half of the year.

“Effectively, this means that by the end of June, the Federal Government will be without funds to continue the subsidy regime, translating to its termination.

“The panic-buying that has ensued as a result of the communication is needless; it will not take immediate effect.

“Furthermore, President Tinubu was clear about his plans to re-channel the funds previously devoted to the payment of subsidies into better investments that will cushion the effects of the removal on the general public, especially the poor of the poor. This includes but is not limited to investments in public infrastructure, education, healthcare and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions of Nigerians and increase their earning potential.”
