Buhari pledges to end insecurity before leaving office

President Buhari has reiterated his commitment to addressing the escalating insecurity plaguing the nation and has pledged to create a new Nigeria devoid of insecurity before the end of his administration. Speaking at the launch of the 700 Ashok Leyland troop-carrying vehicles made locally in Abuja on Friday, the President praised the military’s contributions to maintaining peace and stability and assured them that their hard work would not go unrewarded.

“As a country, we are proud since the first seven years, we have been able to revitalize our armed forces for the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity that was once violated by Boko Haram insurgency and other forms of criminality in the country,” Buhari said. “I commend the armed forces for their support and role played during the presidential and National Assembly elections. I want to assure you all that your labor will not be in vain. My regime would continue to support you in every aspect, including improving your welfare.”

The President added, “Let me also assure Nigerians, the Federal Government remains steadfast and committed to winning the war against insurgency and other forms of criminalities. We will not relent until we have a new Nigeria that is free from the terrorism menace.”
Major General Bashir Magashi (retd.), the Minister of Defence, acknowledged that the effort to modernize the armed forces has been difficult due to the security and economic obstacles faced by the country. “It is worthy of note that the process of transforming the Armed Forces of Nigeria over the years has not been easy given the numerous multi-dimensional security and economic challenges facing the country. Notwithstanding, the current administration has security as a priority in its agenda, hence the need to equip the Armed Forces with all necessary platforms to ensure peace and security in the country,” Magashi said.

“At this juncture, permit me to state that the complexity of crimes in various spheres of operation requires all actors, both public and private, to synergize efforts to safeguard the nation from every form of anti-establishment activities. It is, therefore, most pleasant to take delivery of these troops-carrying vehicles, especially at this period, to facilitate the operational activities of the Armed Forces,” the Minister added.

MAIDEN MOEISHA CREATIVE EXPERIENCE HOLDS THIS FRIDAY

All is set to host a gathering of artists,innovators,creative entrepreneurs,young talents,students and industry professionals as the MOEISHA Creative Experience 2026 takes center stage.

The event, which brings together diverse voices and ideas around art,technology,culture and the future of the creative economy is scheduled for Friday,September 25th from 4pm,toprovide a platform for participants to connect,share ideas,showcase their creativity and explore emerging opportunities at the intersection of art,innovation and technology at Ibom LED Centre.

A major feature of the gathering will be the official launch of The Moeisha Foundation,an initiative focused on empowering young women and fresh school leavers with creative skills and opportunities in digital entrepreneurship.

The foundation is expected to provide opportunities for young people to develop practical skills,discover their creative potential and explore sustainable pathways within the growing digital economy.

Beyond the celebration of creative expression,the MOEISHA Creative Experience is designed to promote networking,collaboration and knowledge sharing among participants from different areas of the creative industry.

The event will take place at Ibom LED,Ibom E-Library,Ibb Way,Uyo,Akwa Ibom State,with free entry for participants. Artists,students,young entrepreneurs,industry professionals and lovers of culture are expected to attend the gathering.

Some of the speakers and panelists to grace the event are Mandu Akpekong (Public Speaker), Sukmama Akpanusong (Tech Entrepreneur),Utonne Ekefre (CEO Latonne Signature) and Emmanuel Udosen (CEO Coddatech Nigeria Ltd), with performances by Udo Mariam, Psc Ben, Ferric Wondaz, Carlos Umoh and Evelyn Praiz to spice up the evening.

The convener,Mekmfonabasi Essien,an artist,creative visionary and curator,said in a chat with this reporter penultimate week that the event was conceived as an avenue to bring people together and create opportunities for meaningful connections within the creative space.

According to her,for a creative community like Uyo,which continues to explore new ways of turning talent and ideas into opportunities,the MOEISHA Creative Experience 2026 provides an avenue for participants to connect,create and discover new possibilities.

She called on young people in Akwa Ibom and neighbouring cities to take advantage of the gathering,describing it as a networking hub capable of opening doors for greater collaboration and creative partnerships.
