See What Burna Boy Has To Say About Being Compared To Fela

That Nigerian singer, Burna Boy has achieved success on a global scale is not in doubt. And even though his brand of music mirrors that of late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the artiste insists that there is no basis for comparison.

In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, Burna Boy revealed that being compared to the late Fela is dishonourable.

According to him, nobody in their right mind would compare him to Fela, even though it happens often.

“Fela is my inspiration and my childhood hero, so if you think comparing me to Fela is honorable, it’s actually not,” he states.

Admitting that such comparisons make him feel weird, Burna says that Fela was Fela, and if it wasn’t for him, there probably wouldn’t be a Burna today.

He also spoke on his objective as an artist, which he says, rests solely on uniting the African continent.

“The reason for everything I do and how I do it is for one goal and one goal only, and that’s the eventual unity of Africa. One day we’ll have one passport, one African currency, one Africa. Then and only then will my mission be complete,” he says.
