Nigerians in danger as World Heath Organisation warn that coronavirus can be contacted through money

Coronavirus has been spreading like wildfire of resent, but this current warning from world health organisation is pretty scary.

Just of resent, The World Health Organisation (WHO) advised people to use contactless technology instead of cash as banknotes may be spreading coronavirus.

The world health organisation advised people to use contactless payments where possible and stop using cash because of the danger of spreading coronavirus; and to always wash their hands after handling cash.

The contactless payments which the world health organisation has advised us to use; is not that common in Nigeria today. You will agree with me that majority of people in rural areas don’t have access to the contactless payments.

For instance, the men and women who go to bush market to buy food stuffs and bring to the city to resale definitely buy with cash because the village sellers do not use or better still, don’t even know what contactless payments means.

The contactless payments (cashless policy) which CBN has been trying to make it work all this while has not been 100% successful due to some technical issues.

This technical issues are policies that are supposed to strengthen the contactless payment policy, which till date is still lagging.

Our contactless payment policy is still stargaring to function properly till date because rather than those at the realm of affairs making laws that will strengthen the contactless payment policy, they are busy catching fun around the world in the name of celebrating their mother’s 90th years birthday in Dubai.

In Nigeria today, we are been ruled by expired leaders, leaders who have no fresh idea of what to inculcate into our society but bills that could only benefit them and their evil plans. leaders who are so expired that they don’t even know what to give priority to and when.

Just of resent, report has it that the speaker of the house of representatives, Gbajabiamila, took 300 guests to Dubai for Mother’s 90th birthday; spend N105.4m for hotel rent, and N69m on trips from public funds. If I may ask, how has this helped citizens?

This is the time every well meaning country is trying to figure out how to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. But rather than our leaders getting all hands on deck, at this trying times, they are busy catching fun around the world.

The coronavirus has been causing a lot of panic globally, but the current threat of infecting people through money is just too scary.

In Nigeria today, our major means of exchange is cash; which means, 85% of Nigerians are not save.

The infectious COVID-19 virus, according to world health organisation, could be carried on the surface of banknotes for several days, which means if a single banknotes is infected, it can be transmitted to more than one person. We know that money changes hands frequently and can pick up all sorts of bacteria and viruses.

It has been suggested that human coronaviruses can remain infectious on contaminated objects for as long as nine days at room temperature in an analysis of 22 earlier studies of similar viruses, including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) published online this month in the Journal of Hospital Infection.

The Bank of England also recognised that banknotes “can carry bacteria or viruses” and encouraged frequent hand washing.

Last month banks in China and Korea began disinfecting and isolating used banknotes as part of efforts to stem the spread of the deadly virus.

With the way other countries are intensifying effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the government of Nigeria are supposed to have announced a preventive measures and create a means of sensitising the masses against the spread.

While other countries’ legislators are making laws that will contribute to the control of the spread of the conoravirus, Nigeria legislators are busy catching fun and making laws that will favour their own goals.

It is in this country our Senators propossd a bill to create a ministry for Boko Haram members, it is in this country our Senators pass bill to send Boko Haram members abroad to study. It is in this country the students in China begged the government to evacuate them from the coronavirus most affected area in China (Wuhan), but the government rather air lifted the repentant Boko Haram members from Niger Republic. It is in this same country some leaders transported 300 guests from Nigeria to Dubai just to celebrate birthday when other countries are seeking for ways to control the spread of the virus.

Coronavirus can be spread through contaminated objects as well as droplets and direct contact with infected patients, according to World Health Orgaisation. And rather than our legislators proposing a way to enlighten the masses, they are busy instructing the management of the National Assembly to put measures in place to ensure the virus does not find a place to fester in the National Assembly.

As a good Nigerian, what is your thoughts regarding this and what measures do U think is right to take in preventing the spread of the coronavirus?
