Chelsea will face Southampton in the round of sixteen of the Carabao Cup today. Thomas Tuchel already won Southampton when they met at Stamford Bridge this season, it won’t be an easy task for Thomas Tuchel side as he’ll be resting his first team for today’s occasion.

The chances of players like Mason Mount, N’golo Kante, Jorginho, Ben Chilwel, Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy starting against Southampton are really slim. Thomas Tuchel could use this match to get few players back into form. Here’s how Chelsea could lineup in today’s match.
Ross Barkley is still yet to start a game for Chelsea this season, the Englishman has come on as a substitute multiple times but hasn’t appeared in the starting lineup. Thomas Tuchel could give him that chance of proving himself against Southampton today. He used to be one of Chelsea’s most productive midfielders, but he hasn’t been guaranteed more playing time in recent matches.
Kai Havertz will lead the attack with Hakim Ziyech on his right and Ross Barkley on the left. We haven’t seen this attacking set up this season but it’ll be lovely to see Hakim Ziyech and Ross Barkley link up behind Kai Havertz. Since his only goal in the UEFA Super Cup final, Hakim Ziyech is still yet to make any goal contribution and hasn’t been involved in more matches recently.
Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta lost their place to Ben Chilwel and Reece James respectively. The full backs will be looking to redeem themselves against Southampton today, Marcos Alonso haven’t started a game for Chelsea since Ben Chilwell started his goal scoring streak. Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus Cheek should pivot the midfield today, the duo links up perfectly when they both started.
Just few changes made to the defense, Malang Sarr, Trevoh Chalobah and Andreas Christensen could be the defensive trio just as they were weeks back. Edouard Mendy is replaced by Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal, the Spaniard could fight for his place back in Chelsea’s squad with an excellent performance today.
