Alex Otti of the Labour Party wins Abia governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Alex Otti of the Labour Party as the winner of the Abia governorship election, which took place on March 18. The declaration was made by the vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Mrs Oti, who stated that the LP candidate defeated his closest rival, Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with a total of 175,467 votes. This victory marks the first win for the Labour Party in the 2023 election.[/p]
Prior to this announcement, some residents and supporters of the Labour Party in Abia state had launched a protest in Umuahia, demanding that INEC declare Alex Otti as the winner. The protesters, numbering in their hundreds, expressed their dissatisfaction with the delay in the announcement of the election results and accused INEC of trying to manipulate the outcome in favor of the PD

In the final results released by INEC, the PDP candidate came second with 88,529 votes, while the Young Peoples’ Party (YPP) candidate finished third with 28,972 votes. Alex Otti’s victory has been widely celebrated by his supporters and party members, who see it as a significant achievement for the Labour Party in the state.P.
